Phillips Carbon Black Limited (PCBL) is India’s largest and World’s 8th largest Carbon Black Company with annual turnover exceeding USD 251 Mn. It is not only the largest exporter of Carbon Black from India but is also one of the largest exporters in Asia. In domestic market, it commands a market share of 41%.
PCBL also stands for People Challenging and Breaking Limits. The company’s vision is to become World No. 6 by 2011. It is also sharply focussed on being a “Learning Organization” and achieving “Quality and Service Leadership”.
RPG Group, recognizing the major turnaround achieved during the FY 07 and the subsequent growth phase on which PCBL has embarked upon to capture the opportunities in Carbon Black business, has made Carbon Black an independent Business Sector w.e.f. 1st August 2008.PCBL has three manufacturing units located in Durgapur (Eastern India), Cochin (Southern India) and Baroda (Western India). A fourth unit at Mundra (Gujarat) has been commissioned in October 2009. Total production capacity of the Company is 360,000 MT per year.
Durgapur plant is ISO-9001 and QS-9000 certified. It has also received the TS 16949 in 2007 and has now initiated the Environmental Management System (EMS) activities for receiving ISO 14001 Certification.
Both Cochin plant and Baroda Plant are ISO 9002: 1994 certifiedThe Company develops, manufacturers and markets various grades of carbon black. The major market for Carbon Black is Tyre Industry. Carbon Black is also required by Non-Tyre rubber based application industry as well as the plastic paint industry.
Green Power
PCBL generates power using flue gases released as by-product of manufacturing process of Carbon Black. After meeting the internal demand, the surplus power is sold. The total power generation capacity of the Company is currently 60.5 MW. It is also PCBL’s humble contribution towards conservation of environment. PCBL earns Carbon Credits for this initiative and it is the first Carbon Black Company in the world to be awarded Carbon Credit under Kyoto Protocol of UNFCCC
Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management
PCBL is a staunch believer in CSR activities. Its Cochin plant has bagged the Environment Management System (EMS) standard accreditation under ISO 14001:1996 and an award from Kerala State Government under large corporate category for best environmental practices in 2004.
Regular community development is a way of life in all Plants. Few of the practices followed are pipeline for drinking water for school, free distribution of books, Merit Awards, Donation of ambulance, Total rain water harvesting etc.
