Fraudsters dressed as CESC employees cheating innocent residents

There has been a gradual rise in number of cases where fraudsters dressed as CESC employees are cheating unsuspecting residents. These miscreants visit households, especially in the afternoon when only the homemaker is at home, and demand money in the pretext of repairing electric meters or fixing electrical lines. There have been cases where they have even taken away installed meters apparently for 'repairing' them.

The city police had busted one such racket functioning in the name of CESC Consumer Welfare Association. On Wednesday, a division bench of Justic Subhra Kamal Mukherjee and Justice Arunava Basu rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Asim Mondal, a member of dubious CESC Association. Advocate Puspal Sathpathi appeared for the state to oppose Bail prayer.
