Mela: A Carnival of Indian Art

"Mela: A Carnival of Indian Art" that the RPG Academy of Art organized in 2002, in Mumbai, was a celebration of the many sensibilities within Indian contemporary art. It celebrated the diversity and spontaneity of Indian art and artists. There were three distinct themes: Heroes and Mentors, My Favorite Work of Art and Rare Treasures.

With the presence of more than 40 best known Indian artists such as M F Hussain and Raja Ravi Varma, this was an interactive art event. From art objects crafted using food as a medium, to vintage paintings by Raja Ravi Varma and Hemendranath Mazumdar, the show scaled a gamut of periods, styles and experiences. Additionally, artists performed live in the gallery and interacted with viewers on site.
